I love this music and I miss it terribly! This is a recording made by one of Mercredimusics’ most loyal and untiring listeners, Mathieu B. He has been attending this weekly series since its birth back in 2002. I had just arrived in Montreal. After several years of cross-country tours I finally gave in to my increasing envy of the Montreal music and art community and relocated via Winnipeg via Vancouver via Amsterdam via Chicago via Toronto. Initially I started this series simply to get to know the musicians in my new home town. After a couple of years, some 50 concerts later, curating the sessions started to take over too much of my free time. At which point…abracadabra...  Joane Hétu (saxophone/voice) and Jean Derome (saxophones/objects) came to my rescue, suggesting that we tri-curate the series and we’ve never looked back. Mercredimusics has become North America's longest uninterrupted chain of public spontaneous and creative music performances. Mercredimusics is a weekly series of meetings between musicians largely (but not exclusively) based in Montreal. It has never missed a beat, all the way through until COVID-19 hit in March 2020, more than 400 concerts later. The pool of musicians, dancers and visual artists willing and able to participate for the sheer exploratory pleasure is astounding. The numbers are augmented somewhat when traveling musicians (really from around the globe) make requests to either Joane, Jean or myself to play at the Mercredimusics - a Wednesday night that lines up with their visit to Montreal. Fast-forward to March 2020...Covid-19 hits and the brutal halt…It comes not only to Mercredimusics and to all activities at the infamous Casa Obscura but to almost everything LIVE in the world. But we will be back, even badder, with the ever-strengthening, unstoppable force of live music!
